SNOW!!!
Apparently in Colorado it starts snowing in early October. Denver got hit with snow, and the DU campus lawns and parking lots were covered in snow when I went to class on Tuesday. However, it didn't snow in Fort Collins at all. Of course my first thought was "When can we go snowboarding?"
I headed up to Rocky Mountain National Park again today. My doctor taped up my foot to simulate having an orthotic insert, and it made a world of difference. I guess I'll be getting orthotics soon.
It was about 7:30am when I hit the trail, and my car said it was 37 degrees at the trailhead. I like to get there early because the parking lots are really small and I want to be on the trail before there are hundreds of people on it. Anyway, the weather was freezing, and I wasn't expecting it to be that cold. Luckily I had an extra fleece jacket in my car, so I was wearing 2 fleece jackets and a wool beanie.
The Fern Creek trail follows Fern Creek (duh), all the way to "The Pool". Those of you playing along will remember that this was where I stopped for Lunch when I hiked to Cub Lake. The trail from Cub Lake and Fern Creek join up at a big bridge; this is a popular stopping point for people having picnics.
From The Pool, I headed up the mountain to Fern Falls, a gorgeous waterfall with a nice place to sit and have lunch. I got pretty cold there after about 10 minutes, but it was peaceful and solitary while I could stand it.
Check out the Fern Falls Photos.
